“Suicide Month”

IMG_1024

May is here and the fish are going crazy.  Every where we go lately it has been nuts.  When we have been staying on the bridges we have been catching limits.  When we fish other lake spots as mentioned on prior "Tip of the Week" articles they are producing limits.  We even went to delacroix twice to fish reds and caught limits doing that.  This tip is simple this week.  Get out there!!!   The time is here and will not get any easier throughout the year.  May is Suicide month and living … [Read more...]

“Big Trout on the Moons”

IMG_0908

Well our first major full moon has come and gone.  The front half of the moon was garbage.  Due to high winds, late fronts, high rivers and fresh water we did not see many big trout come through dockside with out a single 5 pounder.  The back side of the moon was ok on the other hand.  The weather was perfect but we still battled the high rivers as we have since january. When targeting trophy trout no matter where in Louisiana, every big trout angler knows that focusing on the major moon … [Read more...]

Destined for Destin

IMG_0788

With week after week of torrential rains, high winds and high rivers, it was time to take a road trip.  Kristi and I decided it was time to pack up a few rods and bag full of Matrix Shads and Golden Eye jig heads and get away from all the dirty and stained water in Lake Pontchatrain to seek out crystal clear water.  We headed east and ended up at Choctawhatchee Bay in Destin, Florida and what a good choice it was.  After a four hour drive towing our 18' Panga skiff and passing … [Read more...]

Avoid Heavy Lake Crowds

IMG_0698

During this post we are going to give a list of a lot of decent sub-spots for fishing Lake Pontchatrain as we enter our most crowded months.  We all know the crowds on the Lake can be a night mare so lets go over some good tips for making worth while even in the big crowds. First off if possible weekdays play hooky from work "If Possible". --- If you were ever looking for a wild seen with fisherman go to the south end of the trestle on a slick calm april or may saturday around 830am, it can … [Read more...]

“Big Girls Beginning To Show Face on Eastern Bridges”

IMG_0681

" BIG GIRLS SHOWING FACE " Its been a very long and hard fought spring so far this 2013' but light is at the end of the tunnel.  The high East and West Perl Rivers has played havoc on us Lake P anglers the last few months because of sky rocket high levels.  Due to these abnormally high rivers it is causing a lot of fresh water to flood into the lake very similar to the spillway effect but coming from a different angle.  But the worst is now behind us and the fish are beginning to act … [Read more...]

Slidell Bridges Getting Hot

IMG_0529

After a dismal and horrific February followed by and even worst March, we have finally seen the Lake come alive as we are about to enter April.  It really is crazy how the fish show up like an over night invasion in Lake Pontchartrain.  We went out several times during the beginning of March to the Trestle and notta and again notta and then one day BAM "Fish On"  Every year it really does amaze me how the fish all of a sudden migrate to the bridges in eastern Lake Pontchatrain.   So far this … [Read more...]

During Tuff Trout Months Target Excellent Bass Fishing

IMG_0380

With all the extreme weather throughout february and heading into march it may be time to look at the freshwater side of fishing and see what you think.  If you have always wanted to put a trophy bass on your wall and not really sure when to go well NOW is the answer.  Bass get on the beds when water temps starting touching the 60 degree mark and there is no better time to start looking for a wall hanger.  Right in the back yard of DockSide is a wonderful place to start looking for a trophy … [Read more...]

Spring Finally Here, But High Pearl River Causing Problems

IMG_0224

Long waited and finally near,  winter now gone and March is here.   March may not be my favorite month but it surely is my most anticipated month.  After watching the constant fronts, cold temps, high winds and soaking rains it's time for a change.  March offers longer days and warming trends which triggers hungry speckled trout.  This is a good month to continue looking for some trophy trout.  There is one big problem that gives all our Louisiana anglers the same problem is wind and … [Read more...]
