Big Trout Showing Face in Eastern Lake Pontchartrain

Focus on Shorelines in Early Spring Before Fish Settle in at Bridges

Last few trips we have made in late Febuary we have had similar results.  The trestle has been very slow but the few we are catching are very nice trout.  What has been producing has been the shove line between Chef pass and Irish Bayou.  We have been getting about two cast distances off the marsh or rock shoreline and fan casting 5/16oz GOLDEN EYE jig heads attached to the midnight mullet MATRIX Shad and bouncing them off the bottom.  Every day we have tried it we have boxed 20-25 trout … [Read more...]

Find Deep Water

With water temps steadily dropping and fish moving the deeper waters, focus your efforts in areas that are surrounded with water depths of 30 plus foot.  These deeper water depths allow the fish to survive when hard freezes come through in the winter.  They will move to the shallows on the warmer winter days to feed and thats where you can load the boat with trout and reds.  Look for areas like LakeShore, Gohegans, Textron (Irish Bayou), and the ICW to stay hot unless water temps hit the … [Read more...]
